above you can see my plan for my own college magazine cover, in order to create its layout i took inspiration from my research of existing covers.

for example placing the masthead at the top of the page conforms to the conventions shared by other magazine designs, as well as the positioning of images, text and sub-headings.

above is my final magazine cover design featuring all of the codes and conventions shared by existing college magazines in both layout and colour scheme.

analysing magazine covers

here are my two analysis of college magazine covers

from my analysis i found several codes and conventions shared by both, here are some examples:
- the layout is very similar, the heading or mast head is at the top of the page easily noticeable to the reader, it identifies the context or subject matter of the magazine.
- a date or issue number is placed in a corner of the page so as not to obstruct the rest of the text.
- headings and sub-headings are colour coded to break up text and make the subject matter easy to identify from the rest of the text.
- the main ,and only image covers the entire background of the page emphasising context and setting/interpretation of mood e.g. whether its formal or informal.
